We’ll go slow. One chord, one strum, one small win at a time.
Today’s tiny win
Goal: hold the guitar comfortably, make one chord, and strum it four times.
That’s it. Anything more is a bonus.
2-week plan
Days 1–14
Tap any day to jump straight to that lesson.
Day 1 • First steps
Hold + Em + Strum
1. Sit comfortably
• Sit in a normal chair, not a deep couch.
• Keep both feet flat on the floor.
• Relax your shoulders — no stiffness needed.
2. Where the guitar sits
• Rest the body of the guitar on your right leg (if you’re right-handed).
• Tilt the guitar slightly back toward you so you can see the strings.
• The neck should point a little bit up, not straight flat.
3. Left hand shape
• Place your thumb behind the neck, not hooked over the top.
• Curve your fingers like you’re gently holding a small orange.
• Later, your fingertips will press the strings — not the flat pads.
4. First chord: E minor (Em)
Keep the guitar held like above. Now place:
• Middle finger on the 2nd fret of the 5th string (A string).
• Ring finger on the 2nd fret of the 4th string (D string).
• All other strings stay open.
E minor (Em)
6 5 4 3 2 1
0 2 2 0 0 0
0 = open string
2 = press at 2nd fret
Fingers:
- 2 (middle): string 5, fret 2
- 3 (ring): string 4, fret 2
5. First strum: Down ×4
• Rest your right forearm lightly on the guitar.
• Your hand should hover over the sound hole.
• For now, just use all downstrums.
Pattern: Down Down Down Down
Count: 1 2 3 4
You’ll hear a low click on each downstrum. Try to match your hand to the beat.
Practice: make the E minor chord, strum Down–Down–Down–Down, then relax.
Do this little cycle 3–5 times. That’s enough for Day 1.
Day 2 • Em ↔ G
Switching chords
1. Review E minor
Make your E minor chord from Day 1. Strum Down–Down–Down–Down a few times.
